Vic Manuel waits return of troubled Calvin Abueva
MANILA, Philippines — Vic Manuel, who made a tremendous performance the other night with 35 points, is standing behind teammate Calvin Abueva as the latter deals with personal problems and an indefinite suspension from Alaska management.
The 30-year-old Manuel said Sunday evening he just hopes that Abueva can get through the tight situation and plunge back into action.
The Aces, behind a beast-like performance from Manuel, turned back the Magnolia Hotshots the other night, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
With a 6-1 record, the Aces moved in contention for the top two spots in the quarterfinals, and the hefty twice-to-beat advantage that goes with it.
Manuel said he would welcome Abueva anytime management lifts the suspension.
“We’re just waiting. I’m behind him,” said Manuel, who scored 35 points on a near-flawless performance against the Hotshots.
“Whatever Calvin is dealing with, I think he will hurdle it. He’s a tough person. He’s just facing a very difficult time right now,” said Manuel in Filipino.
The former PSBA Jaguar said he respects management’s decision to suspend Abueva after “The Beast” went missing for more than a week.
Abueva failed to inform the team of his whereabouts, and has not shown up for team practices. He has missed two games, which the team both won.
